Chattanooga Hokies Update for December

December is a UT Prosim month for the Chattanooga Hokies.  Chapter members had a Holiday Social hosted by Mary Lamb and Pam McConnell on December 8th.  We are happy to report the Holiday Social participants raised $325 for the United Way Family Care Center.  Chapter Vice President, Leigh Todd, will present the Chapter donation to the United Way Family Care Center this week.  The funds are to be used to fulfill Family Tree requests for needy families in the area.

Once our Chapter President Keith Hagy returns from his business trip to Europe, China, and “Down Under” the Chattanooga Hokies will link up at the Chattanooga Community Kitchen to make our annual Hokie Bird Fight Hunger Campaign contribution.  This is a community Service project the Chapter has participated in each year since the Chattanooga Chapter was formed in 2001.  We are planning to make the presentation on Saturday, December 17th at 10:30 AM for anyone that wishes to participate.  The Chapter members have contributed $210 toward the Hokie Bird Fights Hunger Campaign this year.

VT Fleece Blanket for Silent Auction

We are happy to announce that Sandy Bunting has applied her artful skills to the making of a fantastic VT Hokie Fleece blanket.  She has presented the VT Blanket to the Chapter to be used to raise funds for the Chapter Scholarship Fund.  Each year the Chapter presents a scholarship to a deserving area Freshman matriculating to VA Tech.  This year the Chapter members raised enough scholarship funds to grant two (2) $1000 scholarships.  Matt Woods applied his Hokie ingenuity to the effort by suggesting the Chapter members and others submit silent bids for the VT Blanket.  The minimum bid is set at $60.  Each time a bidder submits a bid they are to place $5 in an envelope with their Name and Bid amount enclosed, seal the envelope and get it to David McConnell, Chapter Treasurer vthokie71@epbfi.com .  The bidding process will be carried on at all events up to either the “Dinner and Speaker” event in the spring or no later than the Annual New and Old Hokies Picnic, both dates TBD.  The envelopes will remain sealed and be opened at one of the events.  The bidding got off to a great start with six (6) couples offering up bids at the social.  It was rumored Matt and David are spying on each other in their zeal to capture the prize.  The envelopes are to be sealed with a line across the envelope seal to ensure that even a crafty Treasurer won’t know what the bids are until the Day of Opening.  The rules of the bid process are “each time a member suspects he/she should maybe raise their bid they are to repeat the process of placing $5 in an envelope with their name and amount of bid, seal the envelop, and submit to the Treasurer”.

Anne Harvey, Community Service Chairman, reported the Chattanooga Chapter has once again been invited to assist the Chattanooga Food Bank with the annual Hullabaloo Charity event.  This year’s Hullabaloo will be held on January 14, 2012 at the Chattanooga Food Bank facility off Amnicola Highway.  Chapter members are needed to help with the setup, man some of the product and services booths, registration desk, coat closet, and distribute food and drink to the Hullabaloo Charity participants.  Anyone interested in helping out with this event should contact Anne Harvey at Littleanne77@comcast.net

Don Tabor, Game Watching Coordinator, has booked Fox and Hound Pub & Grill at Hamilton Place for the upcoming BCS Sugar Bowl featuring VA Tech versus Michigan on January 3rd.  The Game starts at 8:30 PM on Tuesday.  Let’s support our team and Chapter on the 3rd!
